(PASO)

The Pan American Sports Organisation (PASO) is a regional International Organization recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC).  It was established 8th August 1948 by the National Olympic Committees of the Americas, and has as its principal objectives the celebration and conduct of the Pan American Games and the development and protection of Sports, as well as the Olympic Movement in America through its own National Olympic Committees.

PASO is an organization which has amongst others the following principles:

  • The spreading throughout the Americas of the Olympic ideals as defined by the Olympic Charter, in close collaboration with the IOC, ANOC, and the Olympic Associations of other continents.

  • Education of youth by sport in a spirit of better comprehension, friendship, and respect for the environment, contributing thereby to the construction of a better and more peaceful world.

  • Application of different alternatives with updated concepts to improve the sports level of the countries' participation in regional, continental and Olympic events, promoting at all times the participation of women in sport.

  • Promotion of cooperation between the NOCs members of PASO through research, study of common interests, exchange of information and defense of common attitudes.

  • PASO is a non-political, non-sectarian and non-racial organization and shall not permit any discrimination based on reasons of politics, idealogies, religion, language, sex, race or color of skin.

The PASO emblem is a torch superimposed over five concentric circles of the colours green, yellow, white, red and blue.  At least one of these colours appears on every national flag of the Americas.  PASO's motto "America, Espirito, Sport, Fraternite" incorporates four of the languages in common use in the Americas: Spanish, Portuguese, English and French.  The phrase loosely translates to English as "The American spirit of friendship through sports."

OBJECTIVES:

To update the participants presenting new theories of sports training and the advances of the sciences applied to sport.

To favour the professional self improvement of the trainers, representatives of National Olympic Committees, through the training of specialized human resources with high level athletes.
