ABOUT BERMUDA'S ATHLETES*

GYMNASTICS (Women's Artistic)

Hannah King is a student, and has competed at the
2005 Island Games in the Shetland Isles, Scotland.

Caitlyn Mello, a student, has competed at the 2005
Island Games in the Shetland Isles, Scotland, and received a 2005 Government
Department of Youth, Sport and Recreation Athlete Award.

Casey Lopes is a student and has competed in the
2002 Commonwealth Games, Manchester, England; 2002 CAC Games in El Salvador;
2003 Island Games, Guernsey, Channel Islands; 2005 Island Games, Shetland
Isles, Scotland and has been the Bermuda Gymnastics' Team Captain in 2004, 2005
and 2006.
Kalena Astwood, student, competed in the 2002
Commonwealth Games, Manchester; 2002 CAC Games, El Salvador; 2003 World
Championships, California; 2003 Island Games, Guernsey, Channel Islands;
2005 Island Games, Shetland Isles, Scotland and the 2004 Commonwealth Youth Games,
Australia. She was awarded the Bermuda Government Department of Youth, Sport
& Recreation Junior Athlete of the Year Sponsorship
Award in 2004. Kalena's father, Glenn, is a former Olympic Sailor.

Kaisey Griffith, student, competed at the 2005
Island Games in Shetland Isles, Scotland, and was Overall Champion at the
Games.

AQUATICS

Kiera Aitken (50m, 100m back & 50m free) senior university student, competed
at the 2003 World Championships , 2003 Pan Am Games, 2005 World Championships, and
2004 Olympic Games. She was awarded Bermuda Female Athlete of the
Year in 2004 and holds the Bermuda record for the 50m backstoke, 100m
backstroke, 200m backstroke and 400m freestyle.

Michael O'Connor (50m, 100m fly) college student, competed at the 2005
World Championships. He first started competing in the National
Team in 1998, and competed in the 50m fly in Montreal, July 2005. He
lists his coach, Kathy Cowan, and his mother, as the most influential people
in his career to date.

Ronald Cowen, (100m, 200m, 400m free, 100m fly,
100m back) college student, first began competing in the National Team
in 1994, and has competed abroad widely, at the 1999 & 2003
Pan Am Games, 2001, 2003 and 2005 World Championships, and 2002 Commonwealth
Games. The most influential people in his career are Duncan Newby and
Personal Coach Ron Forrest.

Graham Smith (200m IM, 100m Free) is a student of Dalhousie University
in Nova Scotia, Canada and has a BCSc in Computer Science. His
personal coach is David Fry and he started competing in the National Team in
1996. He has attended the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester,
England, where he reached the semi finals in 50m breast stroke, and 2005
World Championships in Montreal. He won gold medals in 100m and 200m
breast stroke at the CISC in Aruba. He was awarded the Atlantic
Canada's University Rookie of the Year in 2001.

Katura Horton-Perinchief (Springboard diving)
Katura has the distinction of being
the first black female diver to compete at the Olympic Games (Athens, 2004)
She is a graduate student (BSc French/Biology (Pre-Med) and MPH candidate who
first started competing in the National Team at the Commonwealth Games in
2002. She has also competed at the Pan Am Games, World Championships
and World Cup in 2003, and the Olympic Games in 2004. Her most
memorable sporting achievement was competing in the 10m platform at the
World Cup. She has been awarded the Bermuda Sports Achievement Award
and All Conference First Team. Sporting relatives include her mother
Ellen-Kate Horton (Softball), aunt June Dill who competed in the Pan Am
Games 2003 (Bowling). She speaks French and Spanish and lists other
sporting interests as Gymnastics, Volleyball, Track, Swimming, Basketball
and Figure skating. The most influential person in her career is her
mother, and she is coached by Terry Faulkenberry.

TARGET SHOOTING
Nelson C Simons
The 'senior' shooter, Nelson was instrumental in the creation
of the Coral Reefs Rifle and Pistol Club and has been an avid shooter in all
disciplines (rifle and pistol). Nelson has been a SmallBore
participant at the Malaysia Commonwealth Games 1989 as well as FullBore at
Commonwealth Games 2002. Probably the most experienced shooter in the
team, FullBore is his forte. He travels frequently to Canada to train and
compete along with Walter Trott. Nelson is a former Vice President of
Coral Reefs Rifle and Pistol Club.

S. Walter Trott
another one of our senior shooters and founding member of
the Coral Reefs Rifle and Pistol Club, has of late been concentrating on
FullBore, having fired on all of the ranges in the West Indies, Canada and
England. A former club President, he is currently Secretary
of the Bermuda Target Shooting Association.

Ross E G Roberts
is one of our most consistent SmallBore participants, over several
years maintaining a shooting average of 95% or better. Ross had a
respite when he set about building his home and family. His
return to the sport and subsequent quest for better and better performance
has been rewarded and he is probably the best contender for "MQS".
Ross began shooting in 1987 and has been travelling to competitions since 1989.
His personal "Best" was 578 at the World Cup in Wolf Creek in 1996 during the
pre-Olympic tournament. He has been the repeat Bermuda Champion for a
number of years, and has competed at the Commonwealth Games in 1998 and 2002.

Sinclair C Rayner is a graduate of the Bermuda Regiment, where he developed his
interest in competitive shooting and became involved in the Civilian
activity in 1986. Once out of the army he became active primarily in FullBore, but has recently adjusted and then qualified with Smallbore Rifle.
His Personal Best in this event is 579 at the October 2005 World Cup event
at Fort Benning. A SmallBore "MQS" of 587 is attainable.
Sinclair participated at Commonwealth Games in Victor BC, Malaysia and UK at
FullBore, but will compete at this coming Games in SmallBore.

ATHLETICS
Zindzi Swan, (High Jump) a student who first started competing with the National
Team in the Spring of 2000. She has attended the Carifta Games in 2002
and 2004 and has been awarded the Bermuda Government Achievement Award.
She is coached by Gerry Swan, lists the most influential people in her
career as Bermuda Olympians Nicky Saunders and Brian Wellman. Zindzi
also plays basketball.

Arantxa King (Long Jump) is the reigning World Long Jump Youth
Champion. She is a student who
first started competing in 2004 as a junior, and is coached by Branwen King at Medford
High School in the USA. Other sporting pursuits include soccer.

Ashley Couper (1500m) works as an assistant coach and
first competed with the National Team in 1999. She trains with coach
Frank Gagliano at Nike Farm Team and has competed in CAC Games 1999, 2003
and 2005, and Pan Am Games 2003. She has been the recipient of the
Bryan-Mathuis IronMan Award, Stanford; and highest GPA and athletic
accomplishments, UVM. Sporting relatives include her Mom, Peggy Couper,
who is a distance runner, and cousin Tyler Butterfield, also qualified to
compete in the Commonwealth Games in the sport of cycling. She speaks
French and Italian in addition to her native English tongue.
Michael Donawa (800m) a Detective Constable with
the Bermuda Police Force first competed in the National Team in
2002 and has taken part in the Carifta Games winning the 1500 meters.
He won the Denton Hurdle Award for Academics and Athletes, and is most
influenced by his coach, Gerry Swan. Sporting relatives include his
brother Jay Donawa, and Devon Bean. He also enjoys playing cricket.

Latroya Darrell (High Jump) is an Honours student
who has competed in the Carifta Games in 2001achieving two silver medals and a gold
medal. She achieved the Most Outstanding Athlete Award at school, and
lists Clarence Saunders (high-jump gold medallist, Commonwealth Games 1990).
Former pro boxer Troy Darrell is related to Latroya.

CYCLING
Tyler Butterfield (Time Trial & Road) begun his career in Triathlon with
the National Team at the Junior World Championships in 2000 (finishing 3rd).
He has also competed at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, and 2004 Olympic Games in
the sport of Triathlon. The most influential people in his career are
former runner and mother Debbie Butterfield, and former Ironman triathlete
and Olympic rower, father James Butterfield. His brother also competes.

Geri Mewett (Road) is a personal trainer who began
competing with the national team in 1999. He has competed in the 1990,
(also competing in these games was his mother) 1994 (swimming) and 2002
(cycling) Commonwealth Games, as well as the 1992 Olympic Games and 2005
Island Games where he placed 1st in the road race. He lists his wife
as being the most influential person in his career. His mother, Sandra Mewett,
competed in the 1986 and 1990 Commonwealth Games.

Julia Hawley (Time Trial & Road) is a qualified
Accountant and started competing in the national team in 2000. She has
competed at the Commonwealth Games 2002, Pan American Games 2003, Island
Games in Guernsey, Caribbean Championships and World B Championships, and
was Bermuda's National Champion in Road Race and Time Trial in 2005.
She lists sporting relatives as her two children, parents, brother and
sister; her husband being the most influential person in her career.
Her personal coach is Greg Hopkins.

TRIATHLON

Flora Duffy is a student who competed in the Windsor Triathlon (UK), World Championships in Japan and British National Championships (where she
came 2nd in her division) in 2005. She lists her most memorable sporting
achievement to date as qualifying for the Commonwealth Games, and lists the
most influential person in her career as Lance Armstrong.

Karen Smith is a Reinsurance Technician who first
started competing in the National Team in 1999, and has competed in the
Commonwealth Games in 2002. She has been National Champion 1999-2004
and lists the most influential person in her career as her husband.

SQUASH

Nicholas Kyme first began competing for Bermuda in 1996 and has competed
abroad in 1998 and 2002. He has received a Bermuda Government
Achievement Award and lists his mother as the most influential person in his
career. He is coached by Ross Triffitt and also enjoys golf and
tennis.

James Stout has competed in the Pan Am Games, CAC
Games, Small Island Games (1st place in doubles, 3rd place in singles and
team) and lists his most memorable sporting achievement as representing
Bermuda at the Pan Am Games in 2004, finishing 5th overall. The most
influential people in his career are his father and mother.
